On Tuesday 1st July 42 ladies took part in the Ladies 18 hole Medal competition, which was also the Jubilee Bowl trophy competition. There were some great scores on the day. Division 1 was won by Dawn Fabbroni, nett 71. Dawn’s round included 7 pars. In second place was Anne Padgett, nett 73. Sophie Jacob came in third with nett 73. Joanne McCormack was division 2 winner and also the Jubilee Bowl trophy winner, with nett 69. Val Smith-Jackman, nett 71, was in second place, Vanda McKenzie taking third place with nett 72. Division 3 was topped by Rebecca Ellacott, nett 71, followed by Lydia Scott, nett 74, third placed was Jo Walker, nett 75. Two ladies took part in the 9 hole Stableford competition, Ann Chippindale the winner with 16 points.

On Tuesday 24 June the blustery showers did not deter 64 ladies taking part in Ladies’ Captain’s Day 18-hole Stableford competition, with 15 ladies clearly enjoying the conditions enough to score 36 points or higher!

Tuesday 10 June was Ladies Invitation Day, 17 teams of four took part in the AMAM competition (two scores to count, with all four to count on the 18th). The winning team, with a score of 88 points, was Katie Burke and Rachel Laycock with their guests, K Appleton and Joanne Clark. In second place, with 84 points, was Joy Bowler and Rebecca Booth with their guests, Sue Severn and C Lewis. Lady Captain Vicky Eyre and Helen Mountford, with their guests, S Huddy and K Sutton came third, 82 points. All players enjoyed complimentary refreshments at the halfway house. Following the golf there was a delicious meal and presentation of prizes.

On Tuesday 3 June 44 ladies took part in the Ladies 18 hole Stableford competition. Division 1 was won by Carole Whiles, with a score of 39 points, Carole played a very tidy round of golf which included 6 pars. In second place was Pam Dodds with 36 points, followed by Gerry Callander, also with 36 points, third on countback. Division 2 was won by Mary Duffield with 40 points, Mary played the par 3’s particularly well and picked up lots of points on these holes. Susan Taylor came second with 38 points, beating Helen Mountford who scored 36 points. Two ladies took part in the 9 hole Stableford competition, Donna Fenn taking first place with 17 points.

52 Ladies played in the Fourball Betterball Stableford competition on Tuesday 20 May. The sun was shining and the run on the ball continues to be great, which was reflected in the amazing scores. Helen Mountford and Gail Witcomb set an early total with 48 points which was the winning score of the day. Closely followed by Alison Stratford and Natalie Boyle who had 47 points, with Sue Halliday and Steph Turner third with 46 points. There were 15 pairs with 40 points or over, which is a record for the Ladies section, this included 13 ladies getting a WHS handicap index reduction as they had done so well. This competition was also the England Golf PING qualifier, the club have submitted the results to EG and we await to hear if our top scoring ladies have qualified for the national final in September.

On Sunday 4th of May, Pannal juniors entertained Rudding park for the first league match of the year. In total 10 juniors from each club showcased some great golf. Although only the first six matches counted for the result, Pannal had 7 wins and 3 losses. The matches were played with good spirit and the main match ended up as a draw. Archie Greenwood Jowet, Zach Marsh and Harry Stalker were successful for the Pannal Team.

On Tuesday 29th April, in wonderful spring sunshine, forty Ladies played in 18 hole Stableford competition, nine ladies scoring to their handicap or better.

On Tuesday 22 April, 33 ladies played in the first Ladies Medal of the season, which was also a qualifier for the top 8 ladies to go into the Bunny Belmont singles Matchplay knockout competition. Division 1 was won by Hilary Ingram with net 72, second place was Anne Padgett, nett 73, beating Rachel Memmott, also nett 73, on countback. Division 2 was won by Vanda McKenzie, nett 73, Natalie Boyle came second with nett 77 and Helen Mountford in third place also nett 77, on countback. Division 3 winner, with the lowest nett score of the day, was Jo Walker, nett 69, Dee Miller, nett 73 in second place, Lydia Scott, nett 78 in third. 6 Ladies played in the 9 hole Stableford competition, Sally Honeysett winning with 19 points.

Pannal Juniors visited Sandmoor GC for a well contested friendly fixture in blustery conditions. The Pannal team led by captain Will Roeloffs consisted of Zach Marsh, Will Robinson, Jake Dodson, Rory Mountain, and debutant Zander Dall, fought out a well deserved draw in a match played in great spirits.

Tuesday 1st April was the start of the qualifying season, commencing with the ladies 18-hole Stableford competition. 48 ladies played in the bright spring sunshine, they were all studiously checking their cards before their tee off as the new Course Rating and Ladies Stroke Index came into play. Many were also eagerly anticipating playing the newly opened par three 3rd hole, which had been closed during the winter for reconstruction work. Clearly the hole was appealing as there were four ladies who got a birdie on it.

42 Ladies enjoyed the spring weather for their 12-hole 4BBB Stableford competition on Tuesday 25th March. In form Val Jackson, playing with Vicki Nee, topped the table with an impressive 29 points. There were 4 pairs with 27 points, Carole Whiles and Sophie Jacob taking second place, Vicky Eyre and Susie Stuart-Brown third on countback.

Tuesday 18th March was the annual Lady Captain’s Team v Lady Secretary’s Team 4 Ball Better Ball Matchplay trophy competition. 44 ladies enjoyed the spring sunshine, and some very close matches were played, many going to the last hole and even the last putt! However, luck was on the side of the Lady Secretary’s Team, who won 7 ½ to 3 ½. Following a tasty afternoon tea and inspirational new season speech from the newly appointed Lady Captain, Vicky Eyre, the outgoing Ladies Captain, Lynn Sheldrake, presented the trophy to Lady Secretary, Debbie Bruce.

With a second week of dry weather the course is beginning to firm up and our greenkeeping staff are in final stages of preparation for the upcoming competition season.

Tuesday 4th March was the Ladies Mad March Hare Stableford competition, played over 12 holes. 42 ladies entered. Division 1 was won by Ann McDonough with 25 points, including three pars. Sophie Jacob was in second place (24 points), Vicky Eyre in third place (23 points). The Division 2 winner was Lydia Scott with 26 points, in second place Katie Burke (25 points), and in third place Alison Stratford (23 points). After playing golf the ladies enjoyed soup and sandwiches, following which Lady Captain, Lynn Sheldrake, presented the Mad March Hare broches to the Division winners. Hilary Ingram was also presented with the Winter trophy, which is an aggregate Stableford competition played between December and February.

32 ladies played in the 13-hole 4 ball better ball Stableford competition on Tuesday 25th February. There were several good scores, with only 1 point between 1st and 4th place. The consistent pairing of Hilary Ingram and Carol Wakelin topped the table with 28 points. Also with 28 points, coming second on countback, were Lisa O’Reilly and Katie Burke. Third placed, with 27 points, were Joanne McCormack and Val Jackson.

On Tuesday 18 February the course was shorter due to conditions; it resulted in some very high scoring in the Ladies 12 hole Stableford competition. 21 ladies took part, Val Jackson led the field with a superb 40 points, this included Val’s first ever 2 on a Par 3, scoring 6 points on one hole - she was delighted! Coming 2nd and 3rd place respectively, both scoring a credible 31 points, were Carole Whiles (2nd on count back) and Joanne McCormack. Other highlights from the round were Sue White’s eagle on the 4th and many ladies getting entries into the ‘Winter Birdie Tree’ record.
